The Romans Return to Volubilis!!?

Today we went to visit the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. The city was originally settled in the 3rd century BC. At it's peak it is estimated that the city housed 20,000 people. The Romans abandoned Volubilis around 280 AD when the neighboring Berber tribes began to reassert themselves. Even so the city's population of Berbers, Greeks, Jews and Syrians continued to speak Latin right up until the arrival of Islam. Volubilis was inhabited until the 18th century.
I decided that the best time to study the Romans is when we can walk among the buildings they built, touch the pillars and actually see small aqueducts. Tori put it best when she said " History is fun when you can see and touch it!"

A young "Caesar" views his land...

Brent was enthralled with the idea of living in this time era and kept saying "I wish I could see a real Roman". I told him that when I look at him I think I just saw one!

This road leads away from the arch. Some of the best mosaics that we saw where in the" houses" lining this street. Totally fascinating...
